Early childhood special education teacher

Job location: Mikkeli, Finland

The City of Mikkeli’s early childhood education services is seeking two early childhood special education teachers for permanent positions in the supported preschool groups at Kalevankangas and Rantakylä kindergartens, starting August 3, 2026.

Kalevankangas Kindergarten, completed in 2019, is an eight-group kindergarten. Our kindergarten is located near the nature and sports facilities of Kalevankangas. It is important to us that our kindergarten is a safe place for everyone and a place where everyone can be just as they are.

Rantakylä Kindergarten is located in the beautiful Rantakylä district, with good transport connections, and was completed in 2021. We are surrounded by forests, outdoor sports facilities and playgrounds, which we actively utilize as part of children’s learning environments. We work in close cooperation with Mikkeli’s early childhood education, where playfulness, participation and pedagogical development are central.

The early childhood special education teacher plans growth and learning support for children who need support, together with the guardian, early childhood education staff and multidisciplinary actors. The position requires good interaction, team and cooperation skills with staff, families, student welfare actors, basic education and other networks. The special education teacher working in the group needs a positive attitude towards work, the ability to meet and guide children with challenging behavior, and the ability to act and develop cooperation with the kindergarten’s other preschool groups. Expertise in Nepsy (Neuropsychiatric disorders) , Avekki training, and knowledge of various emotional and interaction education methods are considered beneficial in the position. Support for the work is available from the supervisor, the kindergarten’s person in charge of early childhood education (veo), the city’s other veos, and the special early childhood education coordinator. Eligibility requirements for the positions are eligibility according to Section 30 of the Early Childhood Education Act or the transitional provision of Section 75.

The working time is an average of 38.25 hours/week. Salary and terms of employment according to OVTES (The Collective Agreement for Teachers). Employee benefits include an annual sports, culture and well-being benefit with Epassi and a comprehensive range of training.
